What You Should See

It’s weirdly cold outside, there’s still a few weeks of summer left, and there’s a Fringe Festival taking place.  So why not go see the The Angry Birds Movie 2?

No?  No one?  None of you want to see an Angry Birds movie sequel?  Well okay then, though I will point out that it’s getting much better reviews than its predecessor.

In terms of movies I would actually suggest seeing this weekend, Good Boys looks genuinely funny to me, which isn’t something I say about most comedies, Blinded by the Light will probably be criminally underseen despite looking charming enough, and the Chinese-language Kingdom, playing only at South Edmonton Common, looks pretty bad ass, at least according to this guy.

In terms of stuff to avoid, Richard Linklater’s Where’d You Go, Bernadette has gotten off to a pretty rocky start critically despite featuring the world’s most perfect movie star in the lead role, and 47 Meters Down:  Uncaged just doesn’t seem like it would be a good use of your time.

One movie I absolutely want to draw your attention to more than any of this weekend’s releases is Ready or Not, which opens early next Wednesday and is probably the movie I’m looking forward to most for this entire month.
