What You Should See

I don’t say this about new movies very often, at least not usually so outright and unequivocal, but you should probably stay home this weekend.

Now, that’s an attitude I arrive at for two reasons, one, that there are so many more exciting movies opening next weekend, and, two, and more importantly, that I wouldn’t actually go to see anything opening this weekend.  Almost violently so.  Violently not going.  The Nun is getting terrible reviews and just looks like it must be pretty derivative, the Jennifer Garner action vehicle Peppermint barely looks like a movie, and God Bless the Broken Road is entirely excluded from consideration both for its content and because Christian movies are, by definition, always embarrassingly bad.

Being a little more generous, though, the Michael-Caine-narrated My Generation, about the actor’s ascent to stardom in ‘60s London seems interesting, and 1945 considers weighty themes in a post-Holocaust, post-World-War-II Europe.  I mean, they’re worthy pieces, but I’m not going to see either.
