What You Should See

I don’t know, you guys.  This is feeling like a really meh weekend for new movies.  And it’s not as if the Ocean’s movies weren’t a big deal at one time, but it’s hard to get excited about Ocean’s 8 for more reasons than just its all-female cast, it’s not as if Hereditary doesn’t look scary as hell, and it’s not as if I don’t want a lot of you guys to see Hotel Artemis this weekend (which is just barely holding on to a certified fresh rating as of this writing), but… aah, maybe it’s just the heat and light that makes me think everyone should stay inside in the air conditioning and the dark where man was meant to dwell.

And then there’s stuff like The Seagull, whose name alone brings to mind images of things like “merchant ivory” and “love in the time of cholera” and like that, and it’s like… man, I never even bothered to find out what those things are.  Stuff like Love and Bananas:  An Elephant Story, All Aboard, We Are the Roots (and that’s, what, like the third movie we’ve ever previewed that we couldn’t find a trailer anywhere online to embed), and Tom of Finland, all playing at Metro Cinema, look like they may be worth your perusal as well, but… I don’t know.  I don’t know, you guys.  Maybe Avengers:  Infinity War being first out of the gate this summer just ruined things for every movie to follow.
