What You Should See
Y’know… there’s a world — I can imagine — where I could recommend any one of this week’s new movie releases, for their own merits, to their own audiences, and on their own terms.
There’s a world where I could tell you that you could see LBJ for its winning performance from Woody Harrelson in the title role (if nothing else), you could see A Bad Mom’s Christmas for its engaging look at contemporary social disorder (again, if nothing else), or you should see The Killing of a Sacred Deer for its sheer cruelty and weirdness (and probably a whole lot more if the director’s previous work is any indication).
I can almost see that world, waiting, frolicking, resplendent in its effervescent glory, just beyond the horizon. Almost like you could touch it. Almost like you could take it! Almost like it were yours, already, for you to give your all to.
But I’m not going to make those recommendations. I’m not going to tell you all of that. I’m not going to make you reach that far. Because why in the hell wouldn’t you be seeing Thor: Ragnarok this weekend?
