What You Should See

Three things to consider for this weekend’s new movies:

  1. There’s not much new and only one major release.
  2. All three new releases actually look pretty good.
  3. They’re all very different movies.

If you’re looking for worthy if somewhat conventional-looking blockbuster Hollywood experience, Kong: Skull Island has your back (and is the second in Warner Bros.’ shared cinematic MonsterVerse that began with 2014’s Godzilla), if you’re looking for horror, XX, an anthology movie by an all-female team of directors and writers, looks worth your time, and if you’re just feeling a little weird, My Life as a Zucchini (a.k.a. the 2016 Best Animated Feature nominee you didn’t see) might be up your alley. There’s really not a whole lot to talk about here other than that each of your new movie choices is a good one, so I suppose seeing a new movie this weekend would be the movie-going equivalent of appointing Elaine Chao to Secretary of Transportation.
