What You Should See
So Happy New Year everybody! I sure hope things are going well for you so far in this New Year! I’m sure it’s only me who can’t believe not only that it’s already the new year of 2017 but how badly I/we’ve already wasted the first six days of it! Not taking a shower! Thinking about how I/we should be eating healthier after all of the calories I/we consumed over the holidays! Never getting off the couch, watching daytime infomercials because I/we can’t muster the attention span to sit through anything more substantial (and the repetition is comforting)…! Now let us never speak of the New Year again! Honestly, what kind of person greets people with “Happy New Year” anyway? Sickies!
Of the three major new movies opening this weekend, it’s easy to recommend both Hidden Figures and A Monster Calls (though the latter’s proven to be a bit more divisive than its generally positive reviews might suggest), while Underworld: Blood Wars… look, don’t see Underworld: Blood Wars. Going to see Underworld: Blood Wars is basically the movie-going equivalent of voting for Trump.
All three of the remaining new releases are playing at Metro Cinema, and it looks like there are pretty good reasons to see all of them. The Rolling Stones: Ole Ole Ole – A Trip Across Latin America and Long Way North are playing Saturday, and Things Arab Men Say, shot in Edmonton, is playing Sunday.
