What You Should See
I have a confession to make: I was one of those Pokémon kids. But, I was one of those OG Pokémon kids. 1998, baby! It’s never been a big part of my life, but I think if you’re anything like me, with even just a passing interest in the franchise, you’d be a fool not to see Detective Pikachu this weekend. A damn fool! Especially when you take a look at what else is coming out.
The weekend’s other big new releases are a real dog’s breakfast, a euphemism that, I’d like to remind you, comes mostly from the fact that dog’s have a taste for their own crotch and any old poop they happen to find lying around. All of the new movies, the comedically themed but comedically barren The Hustle, the elderly cheerleader movie Poms, and the not-approved-by-the-living relatives Tolkien biopic, look real, real bad, far more disappointing, in fact, than I’d previously imagined they would be now that reviews are out.
Things do look a little brighter on the smaller screens, with Firecrackers being quite incendiary for more reasons than just its own name and 3 Faces offering an honest look at something more real than just about everything else opening. And there’s still time for NorthwestFest 2019 if you haven’t been if you’re looking for the utter reality of documentary film. Legendary bad movie director Uwe Boll will even be in attendance for the screening of F*** You All: The Uwe Boll Story!
