What You Should See
So the obvious question on a weekend like this is whether or not you should see Captain Marvel, and while I’m going to give the obvious answer — that you should — I want to make sure that you know that I, having seen it last night, am quite emphatic in that answer. Yes, you should see Captain Marvel. It’s pretty good. Almost really good. And really, there’s not much else opening this weekend if Captain Marvel is the kind of movie you’re looking for.
The rest of the list of new movies this weekend, by and large, aren’t going to have quite the same magnitude of self-importance as the above two, but I’m also going to recommend Capernaum, which has a really thought-provoking premise and was the Grand Jury Prize at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, I’m less enthusiastic about Ice Blue, and I’m not quite sure what to make of the 21-minute short, Milk Bar, a “psychedelic, free-flowing dreamscape of milkiness” playing at Metro Cinema, which holds the dual distinctions of being brought to us by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and only the third movie we’ve previewed which doesn’t have a trailer for me to embed here anywhere on the Internet.

… Oh, and there’s some Paw Patrol movie. I will speak no further on that subject.
