What You Should See
So if you’re anything like most of the rest of the world, you’re probably going to see Spider-Man: Homecoming, and, in truth, that’s probably the right call, seeing the most popular movie that’s also been very well received critically. That’s how Dad did it, that’s how America does it… and it’s worked out pretty well so far. And I’m probably going to see it too (in fact, by the time you read this I will already have).
But there are other things going on this weekend too — important things! For instance, you can catch The Big Sick, which looks absolutely lovely and is adored by critics, or Certain Women, which looks bone-chillingly off-putting but is also really well liked by critics.
All of which brings us to… graphic nudity. If you’re one of those guys, if you’re just one of those people who irrationally knows about really small foreign movies because of the chance of nudity, the French From the Land of the Moon is probably the way you should go.
Also, The Fifth Element’s playing at Metro Cinema, one day only this weekend on Sunday, and I’d probably recommend that too. Obviously it’s not new, but it is notable and it might be a good catch up before seeing director Luc Besson’s upcoming sci-fi soon-to-be classic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (which I’m sure you were all already planning on seeing).
