What You Should See

Some good news and bad news this week. First, with the bad news if you’ve been looking forward to T2: Trainspotting or The Belko Experiment (like I was), neither is opening in wide release, so both are a no-go for this weekend. The good news? Um… It’s Saint Patrick’s Day? Oh, I know: It’s the last weekend of winter! So for those of you who perversely like things like sunlight, warm temperatures, and a general lack of gloom, rejoice, the end is near!

To be honest, it’s hard for me to be excited about any of this weekend’s new releases, especially considering Beauty and the Beast isn’t quite living up to the critical acclaim you naturally assumed it would. Goon: Last of the Enforcers, the week’s other big release, probably won’t disappoint anyone looking for precisely what that movie is, but I really don’t expect that to be many of you. Meanwhile, in the land of movie’s you’ve probably never heard of until this post (if you even bothered to read this far), you could also see The Last Word, The Sense of an Ending, Land of Mine, Next Time I’ll Aim for the Heart, or Ezra, but it’s hard to get very worked up about any of those movies. So if you’re desperate to see something brand new this weekend… I don’t know, I guess I would see The Sense of an Ending.

But I almost certainly won’t.  Basically, seeing a new movie this weekend is the moviegoing equivalent of appointing Jared Kushner to be your senior advisor.  I’ve never heard of it and I barely know anything about it, but there’s no way that’s a good idea.
