What You Should See
I’m feeling a bit conflicted about this weekend’s new releases. I mean, there’s enough to recommend — Moana, Loving, and The Handmaiden — but not a lot I’d actually go out to see. If you’re wondering about seeing Allied or Rules Don’t Apply though, then wait no longer, because nobody needs to see those movies, and it’s looking like nobody should ever see Bad Santa 2. Meanwhile, I’m not sure what to think about Thoppil Joppan, which, no offense, kind of sounds made up, and I guess you could see Operation Avalanche at the Garneau, but I kind of feel like seeing that movie is the same thing as admitting that your time is worthless. It’s not looking like a bad movie, but… c’mon, it’s a pretty weird and specific set of circumstances would lead a person to seeing that rather than doing… y’know almost anything else.
In fact, the only good reason I could give you to go out and see a movie this weekend is that Home Alone’s playing for one showing only on Saturday, 11:00am at South Edmonton Common and North Edmonton, but honestly, if you manage to wake yourself up early enough to get to the theatre for an 11:00 showing of a kid’s movie (which, of course, means showing up 10-20 minutes before the movie starts, not walking into the theatre late like a complete and utter douchebag, right?), you should probably just go see Moana instead.
