What You Should See

This is a really weird weekend for new movies, one where it’s hard to recommending anything without seeming like I’m getting behind a particular religious or otherwise ideological cause. To start with, there’s the Illuminati/Roman-Catholic-Church-centric Inferno, third in the Da Vinci Code series of conspiratorial movies that seem more intent on revealing their director, Ron Howard, is a mediocre filmmaker than anything else. We also have I’m Not Ashamed which takes a heavily self-serving Christian view on the Columbine High School shootings. Then there’s Unless, about the struggles of women in the literary community.

However you may or may not feel about those issues, the fact is those movies also also all suck (critically speaking), and so the only agenda-based movie we can really recommend here is Angry Inuk, playing at the Garneau. No matter our leanings on conspiracy, religion or gender representation, it’s at least easy for me to recommend against things like ivory dealing, whale hunting, Presidents of the Fox Network, and, in this case, seal hunting. And on that cheery note, we should also probably mention the implacable (because there’s no Rotten Tomatoes consensus yet) Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. So there, it’s mentioned.
