What You Should See

Holy sh*t is this a good weekend for movies! Seriously, Star Trek Beyond looks like it’ll be the big break we need from all of the blockbuster-movie-style crap that’s come out lately and may even please fans of the original series, Lights Out will be a strong, creepy choice for horror fans, and Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie seems like it’ll do a good enough job of whatever it does too (whatever that is).

Star Trek Beyond is the obvious choice this weekend, but don’t forget about De Palma, which looks awesome for film fans, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, which has gotten really strong reviews (and will give us a look at the directing style of our future Thor: Ragnarok director, Taika Waititi), Wiener-Dog, which looks hilarious if only for how often the word “mother*cker” is used in its trailer, and Kabali, which just looks insane.

With all of the movie riches we’ve been given this weekend, both in wide releases and independents, all I really ask is that you don’t squander these gifts by seeing the new Ice Age. They were never good movies, and this one looks like it’ll be the worst yet.
