What You Should See

If inconsequence was a summer movie weekend, surely it would be this one.

The Secret Life of Pets looks poised to pull down some very decent earnings this weekend, and while it’s unlikely to truly disappoint anyone who’s been looking forward to it, in terms of audience appeal, it’s hewing much more juvenile than all ages. So basically this year’s Minions, not a surprise since they’re from the same studio. Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates had some decent laughs in the trailers, and none of its stars — Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Devine, or even Zac Efron — are red flags that this movie should be avoided, but, unfortunately this movie’s critical consensus is. The Daughter looks intriguing, especially since one of its stars, Anna Torv, doesn’t get nearly the amount of exposure in North America that she should considering how truly attractive she is (not that that’s the most fair measure, but it works for Blake Lively), but I don’t know if its dark-family-secret-oriented premise is enough to draw you to the Princess, quaint as that classic theatre can be.

All of which leads to one of the more satisfying statements I’ve been able to end these weekend posts with:

You should see Weiner this weekend.
