What You Should See
There’s a lot to talk about with this weekend’s movies (though none of it outweighs the importance of what the Oilers do at the draft), but none of it’s really all that interesting. While it remains an open question how Independence Day: Resurgence will do at the box office, there’s no doubt that it’ll be a bad movie, and Free Stage of Jones is looking like the worst kind of boring, so nobody’s going to blame you for skipping either of those. Of the three big weekend releases, The Shallows is by far the most intriguing, both because we wonder how what looks like a movie about one woman and a shark could possibly be stretched to a feature-length running time, and because it’s Blake Lively in a bikini.
As for movie’s I’d actually see, The Neon Demon looks like it could be great for a very, very, very specific audience, and Maggie’s Plan will probably be the best all around movie released this weekend, even if this is the first time you’ve ever heard of it.
