Lotta movies going on this weekend, a lotta movies, but, uh… not a lot to actually go see.

Melissa McCarthy’s The Boss looks more likely to follow the lead of 2014’s Tammy than 2015’s Spy, no matter how interesting, innovative, or even good it may be, Hardcore Henry, a movie shot whose dizzying visuals are entirely in first-person, is sure to be a splatter-fest in all the wrong ways, and Jake Gyllenhaal’s dramatic turn in Demolition is unlikely to match his performance in Nightcrawler.

No, this weekend it’s up to Midnight Special, the story of a young boy with mysterious powers on the run from the government, to save the day. From the director of Mud, this reverse-Superman movie with the guy who played General Zod as the father may be just the antidote you’ve been searching for after Batman v Superman.
