What You Should See

Look, man, I don’t know…. I mean, you should see The Revenant… the same way you should see, like, Requiem for a Dream or Leaving Las Vegas. Those are all important movies, but… you really have to be in the mood, and… I don’t think you’re going to be all that happy right after you see them. But the Oscars are coming up, The Revenant and Leonardo Dicaprio’s performance in it are probably going to be key parts of the season, and we all know how important it is to be part of the conversation.

I would implore you guys to give The Hateful Eight a chance since not enough people saw it last weekend. Experimenter, playing at the Garneau also looks interesting, though I almost can’t imagine the movie making it all the way up to the top of anyone’s list of must sees, so no one’s going to blame you if you miss it.

There’s also The Forest, which has the distinction of being this year’s first major horror release and the peculiar misfortune of being set in a forest when there’s another largely forest-set movie opening that’s almost immeasurably more worth your time. This one has Natalie Dormer, though, and that literally cannot be a bad thing ever, ever.

Finally, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is entering its fourth week of release. On the one hand, we don’t owe that movie any more of our money, but on the other, we desperately need it or any movie to bring down the atrocity that is Avatar being the highest grossing movie of all time, and this is probably going to be our best shot. It’s [still] calling to you. Just let it in [again].
