What You Should See
It’s a really bright weekend for new movies here in the heart of summer, nary an Independence Day sequel or Transformers movie in sight, but despite how good everything up in our ‘Opening this Week’ section looks (even that Girls Trip movie), I’m gonna go ahead and recommend everyone should see Manifesto this weekend. Aside from our well-documented love of Cate Blanchett, it looks really weird, but in that precise and specific type of weird that says you should probably see it.
Of course there are all sorts of other movies opening this weekend, the big ones being Dunkirk and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (and you should probably see both of those), smaller ones including The Journey, Citizen Jane: Battle for the City, and Alive and Kicking (and even though I have no interest in any of them, you should be better than me and see those ones too), and even a Broadway musical brought to the big screen in Falsettos, Saturday only at South Edmonton Common (which, okay, it’s hard for me to get excited about that one, but you might want to see it; it’s got homosexuals!).
